Dental Implants

Dental implants are used in tooth replacement. In contrast to what many believe, dental implants are not the replacement teeth per se. They are cleverly engineered titanium screws used to support the actual tooth replacement, such as a cap (crown) or bridge.

Simply, an implant can be likened to an artificial tooth root, placed into the jawbone where a tooth has been lost. One or more implants can be used, depending on the size of the gap and the number of missing teeth. Implants can be a good option for patients who have lost a tooth due to an injury or extraction.

What can you expect from the procedure?

Not everyone is qualified to receive dental implants. To be an ideal candidate, you should be in relatively good health. Adequate jaw bone is necessary to support the implant, as well as healthy gum tissues free of periodontal disease.

First, we can help determine your eligibility for the placement. Once we decide you are a candidate we will refer you to a specialist who will make further assessments before placing the implant fixture(s) . Once this has healed or integrated with the bone the specialist sends you back to us. We make the abutment and the crown or bridge which attach to the implants. This treatment usually takes 2-3 appointments. The whole treatment can take around 6 months to complete. We will also advise on the proper care and maintenance for the implant crown.
