09.11.10 COVID-19 Update: Eden Dental Operating Again

Posted by:

Under Alert Level 3 we can provide oral health care to our patients, not just urgent and emergency care. We are very happy with this lifting of restrictions. The focus is on preventing problems as Covid-19 is likely to be with us for some time. We have made changes to how patients enter the practice, see fewer patients per day, and all patients are screened carefully before entering the practice.

We realise this is a stressful and confronting time for all of us so we hope these changes help to reassure you around your own health and safety.

  • All our staff are fully vaccinated against Covid-19 and we will be rolling up our sleeves for boosters just as soon as we are allowed.
  • All patients will need to fill out a Covid screening questionnaire prior to their appointment.
  • Entry and exit out of the practice is controlled. When arriving for your appointment we ask that you remain in your car and call us from the carpark. We will advise you when you can come in. We ask that you do not bring another person with you unless you are accompanying a child or you need help with the stairs. You must scan in on arrival.
  • All patients and staff must wear masks in the common areas.
  • When you arrive you will be taken straight into a treatment room.
  • We are allowing more time for our appointments and have stand down times between the patients.
  • We are about to convert the three surgeries to airborne infection isolation rooms. This means that the aerosols created during treatment are removed in an efficient way via a fan in the ceiling allowing fresh air to enter the room. We do not currently have to do this but have decided we want to create the safest possible environment for both our patients and the staff.
  • We use a contactless temperature check for all patients before starting treatment.
  • All patients use a pre procedural mouthrinse to minimse contaminated aerosols during treatment.
  • Both the dentist and the assistant wear full PPE for all aerosol treatments. This is completely changed for each patient we treat. From head to toe this is a cap over our hair, safety glasses, N95 mask, face shield, gloves and long sleeve impervious gowns. This gets very hot so we are running our air conditioning units at quite a cool level. Patients have been commenting they are feeling cold. Please wear or bring a warmer layer especially if you are coming in for a longer appointment.
  • We have all been professionally fit tested for the brands of N95 mask we wear.
  • If rapid antigen testing becomes available, we will be adopting this for both our patients and regular screening of our staff.

We hope this helps to reassure you that treatment is as safe as we can make it.

We are encouraging our patients to seek rather than delay their treatments. Problems are best dealt with promptly. We are prioritising urgent issues but also encouraging patients to come in for their regular check ups and hygiene appointments.

We are happy to be back at work doing what we enjoy and serving our community of patients despite the restrictions that Covid-19 has placed on us all. We hope to see you soon, we really appreciate your support.

Kindest regards

Lisa Wadsworth, Tania Stuart and the team at Eden Dental Centre
